Dr. Daniel Burkhead, M.D., the founder and driving force behind Innovative Pain Care Center, is a distinguished medical professional with a profound commitment to improving the lives of his patients. Dr. Burkhead integrates his extensive experience with a genuine compassion towards individuals grappling with chronic pain.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, he got his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. He then moved to Seattle for his anesthesiology residency at the esteemed Virginia Mason Hospital. Following completion of his Pain Fellowship at the University of Washington, he moved to Las Vegas in the late 1990s. After working in a group practice for several years, Dr. Burkhead recognized a fundamental need for a pain management “Center of Excellence” in Southern Nevada. With this notion in mind, he founded Innovative Pain Care Center in the fall of 2001.
Dr. Burkhead’s vision of a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of pain has now been streamlined within the practice, drawing the excellence and expertise of the next generation of providers to the clinic and surgery center. Innovative Pain Care Center, under Dr. Burkhead’s guidance, will always strive to be forward-thinking, promoting tailored solutions to each individual seeking specialized care. Dr. Burkhead and his esteemed colleagues, continuously seek education and training in cutting-edge techniques in order to remain at the forefront of medical advancements.
As an Assistant Clinical Professor at both UNLV School of Medicine and Touro University School of Medicine, Dr. Burkhead actively proctors medical students and residents. He is published in national medical journals and has given countless lectures regarding techniques and innovations in pain management throughout his several decades of clinical practice. In addition, he continues to promote Innovative Pain Care Center as a clinical research site and serves as Primary Investigator for several FDA-approved clinical trials.
Beyond his clinical expertise, Dr. Burkhead is a staunch advocate for patient empowerment and education. His involvement in shaping legislation aligns with his commitment to breaking down barriers that impede individuals from receiving the pain relief they deserve. He was instrumental in working with the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services to provide regional education and practice implementation of opioid legislation in the state of Nevada. Dr. Burkhead has also actively participated in programs sponsored by the DEA in relation to the opioid crisis throughout the United States.
Dr. Burkhead has served his community by taking on the role of President of the Clark County Medical Society from 2019-2020. During this time, he spearheaded the successful implementation of numerous protocols for mitigation of the effects of Covid-19 in Southern Nevada. Under his direction, the organization created several public outreach efforts including programs involving mask and PPE procurement and distribution during the pandemic. As a result of his numerous public service contributions, Dr. Burkhead was awarded the “Distinguished Physician of the Year” Award for the State of Nevada in 2021.
As a thought leader in the intersection of healthcare policy, academia, and excellence in clinical medicine, Dr. Burkhead founded Innovative Pain Care Center with the well-being of the patients at the forefront of all policies. Through his continuous hard work and dedication to positive outcomes for patients, Dr. Burkhead continues to actively contribute to the success of Innovative Pain Care Center and the Las Vegas community in general.
